Choctaw County had 36 students ready for college in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Alabama Department of Education. This represents 73.5% of the 49 pupils in that year’s graduating cohort.

College readiness in the county increased compared to the previous school year.

College readiness in the district varied based on students’ ethnicity. 65.3% of Black or African American students were considered ready for college in the 2023-24 school year. These rankings may not reflect absolute accuracy, as data for small student groups may have been suppressed to protect student privacy.

A recent study by WalletHub classified Alabama as one of the least-educated states in the U.S., ranking it the 8th worst in America in terms of class size, student performance, funding, safety, and instructor credentials.
