FOIA Request to Marion Military Institute Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, WC Alabama News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Marion Military Institute. This request seeks comprehensive records concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected, we have requested the total number of such students and a breakdown by department. Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

Furthermore, our inquiry extends to identifying recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. We have also requested any policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of WC Alabama News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media dedicated to gathering and reporting news for public benefit, access to these records is vital for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency.

We believe this information will contribute significantly to public understanding and oversight of educational institutions’ interactions with international students.
