FOIA Request to University of West Alabama Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, WC Alabama News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of West Alabama. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.

Our inquiry specifically requests documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected, we have asked for a total count of these students, broken down by department. Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

Furthermore, we have requested details regarding any scholarships granted by entities affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. If such information overlaps with previous requests, we have asked for clarification on which scholarships meet this criterion.

In addition to student-specific data, our request includes any policies or procedures the university employs to monitor students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. As members of the media committed to providing comprehensive news coverage and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to these records is vital for informing the public and ensuring institutional transparency.

We await a response from the University of West Alabama and will continue to update our audience as more information becomes available.
