FOIA Request to Wallace Community College-Selma Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, WC Alabama News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Wallace Community College-Selma. The request seeks detailed information about the college’s current Chinese National students and related policies under the Alabama Open Records Law § 36-12-40 et seq.

Our inquiry specifically requests:

1. Documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If certain information is protected, we have asked for the total number of such students broken down by department.
2. Details on scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
3. A list of recipients of any scholarship associated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, if not already covered in the previous request.
4. Policies or procedures describing how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency in government actions through the use of Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

We believe that access to these public records is essential for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for our audience.
