History and Nature Walk at Old Cahawba

Have you ever thought about what you would do if you could no longer obtain coffee, tea or sugar and other things in our daily lives that we take for granted? During the Civil war, the blockade forced the citizens of Cahawba and other southern towns to be really creative and use plant-derived alternatives for food, fabric, household products, and pharmaceutical supplies. Come join us tomorrow on our History and Nature Walk at Old Cahawba at 10:00 am as we take a walk along our Clear Creek Nature Trail and learn how our local plants were utilized during the blockade. Tickets are $8.00. We also sell this book in our Gift Shop called “Civil War Plants and Herbs” which has various recipes for coffee and sugar substitutes as well as recipes for making soap and other household products. We hope to see you tomorrow!
