Media Release: Six Suspects Arrested in Property Crime Investigation

MEDIA RELEASE: Six Suspects Arrested in Property Crime Investigation

Six individuals were apprehended and charged in connection with two auto thefts, multiple entering autos, and damage to property incidents.  These incidents were reported to have taken place at the ACE Academy School, Adrian Apartments, Guitarras Mexican Restaurant, Express Oil Change, and at the Ashton Hall subdivision. The incidents were reported to have taken place between October 18th and October 19th, 2022.

It was reported that a group of individuals tore up signs that were hanging on the fence that is located at ACE Academy, they damaged a food truck at the Guitarras Mexican Restuarant, knocked over a parked motorcycle, damaged several vehicles and entered vehicles at the Adrian Apartments. These suspects are also involved with entering a vehicle and stealing another vehicle at the Express Oil Change, located on Forest Hill Road, and entering an auto and stealing another automobile from the Ashton Hall subdivision. The individuals committed these crimes within a two day time period. The two stolen vehicles were reported to have been recovered. One of the vehicles was found abandoned and stuck in the front yard of a residence that was located at Azalea Drive. The second stolen vehicle was involved in a pursuit and then recovered in the Atlanta area.

The individuals involved were identified by surveillance video footage at several different locations. The individuals were seen together at each of the incident locations.

On October 19, 2022, Bibb County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies  located three female juveniles at the Park Apartments, on Northside Drive. Deputies were working a theft which lead them to identifying the same three females as being involved in the above mention cases. After a brief foot pursuit, all three females were apprehended. They were interviewed by investigators about the incidents. The three female juveniles were charged and then turned over to the Youth Detention Center.

A 14-year-old female juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Youth Detention Center. She was charged with Entering Auto with Intent to Commit a Theft or Felony, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage to Property-2nd  Degree, and (2 counts) Theft by Taking Felony.-Auto. 

A 15-year-old female juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Youth Detention Center. She was charged with Entering Auto with Intent to Commit a Theft or Felony, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage to Property-2nd  Degree, and (2 counts) Theft by Taking Felony.-Auto. 

A 16-year-old female juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Youth Detention Center. She was charged with Entering Auto with Intent to Commit a Theft or Felony, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage to Property-2nd  Degree, and (2 counts) Theft by Taking Felony.-Auto. 

On October 20, 2022, Bibb Sheriff’s Special Response Team Deputies and members of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit located three male individuals that were also involved with this investigation. The males were located at the Clarion Hotel, located on Holiday Inn Drive. After a brief foot pursuit, all three males were apprehended and taken to the Investigations Division to be interviewed by Investigators. After being interviewed, two of the males were transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. The juvenile was taken to the Youth Detention Center. 

Bibb Sheriff’s Investigators arrested and charged 23-year-old Devin Courtney Smiley with Entering Auto with Intent to Commit a Theft or Felony, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage to Property-2nd  Degree, and (two counts) Theft by Taking Felony-Auto. Smiley is currently being held, without bond, at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Hdywandus Hyminus Poole, age 17, was charged with Entering Auto with Intent to Commit a Theft or Felony, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage to Property-2nd  Degree, and (two counts) Theft by Taking Felony-Auto. Poole is also being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, without bond. 

A 16-year-old male juvenile was also taken into custody. He was charged with Entering Auto with Intent to Commit a Theft or Felony, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage to Property-2nd  Degree, and (two counts) Theft by Taking Felony- Auto. The juvenile was taken to the Youth Detention Center. 

This investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges are pending further investigation.
