DANGEROUS AND HIGH IMPACT COLD WAVE EXPECTED TO ARRIVE AS EARLY AS THIS EVENING:
First, as the arctic front arrives a light wintry mix will be possible across the far N counties between 6pm & midnight. Slippery roadways are possible as flash freeze conditions occur. Any precipitation should quickly end by midnight tonight.
The frigid air will quickly follow after midnight. By 6am Friday, actual temperatures should be in the single digits in Hamilton and Gadsden, teens along I-20, and lower 20s along I-85 southward. By 6am Friday morning, we'll be in the single digits in Hamilton and Gadsden, near 10 degrees along I-20, and teens in Montgomery.
One of the biggest impacts however, will be the frigid Wind Chills or "feels like" temps. We're expecting between 0 and -10° wind chills along and north of I-20 and single digits as far south as Montgomery. Wind gusts as high as 40mph are likely thru Friday morning. A Wind Chill Warning is in effect across northern counties in Central Alabama, while a Wind Chill Advisory is in effect elsewhere.
Gusty winds up to 40mph overnight through Friday may cause weak trees & tree limbs to break and fall, so sporadic power outages can't be ruled out. High profile vehicles may become unsteady within the higher gusts as well.
