In the 2022-23 school year, 53.7% of Black or African American students in Wilcox County schools met Alabama’s college readiness criteria, according to the Alabama Department of Education.

Of the 135 students assessed for college readiness in the county, 72 were Black or African American and met college readiness standards—a 10.8% increase from the previous year.

A total of 102 students graduated from Wilcox County school in the 2022-23 school year.

Alabama’s educational system was rated as one of the worst in the U.S., according to a 2023 study from Scholaroo. The state was ranked 46th based on factors such as school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.
